Recommendations
After the gastric sleeve there are some important eating habits to consider:
1 – Avoid high calorie beverages such as milk shakes, hot chocolate, soda drinks and similar. After the surgery you should limit your choice of drinks to tea, coffee, diluted juice, flavor your drinks only with low fat milk and an artificial sugar, drink mineral water without gas.
2 – Eat small portions. As the capacity of the stomach is was changed, amount of food that can be taken should also be changed.
3 – No laying down after eating. The horizontal position might cause reflux, what is more, food remains in a prestomach longer what leads to accumulation of mucus.
4 – Do not eat and drink at the same time. Drink between meals as the reduced stomach is no longer available for taking in both - solid food and liquid. Drink 2-3 liters water in between meals.
5 – Completely mash food before swallowing. Take your time to chew food well.
6 - Get used to eating 5 times per day. As you will only be able to eat very small portions, in 2-3 times you will not get enough food variety, proteins, minerals and vitamins. What is more, when you eat 5 times per day it is less likely that you will get very hungry.
Complications
Possible complications associated with the gastric sleeve surgery:
- Complications. Risk of possible complications after the gastric sleeve surgery is 3-5%. Basically complications might be bleeding, pneumonia or some infections. Patients must know that the more overweight they are before the surgery, the more risky it is to have complications.
- Regaining weight. It is possible to regain weight again if patients keep eating high calorie food and drinks. The surgery itself is not the only one factor that leads to losing weight. Patients must understand that changing lifestyle is also very important. Getting used to eating 5 meals a day without snacking between meals, avoiding high calorie drinks and regular exercising are the new habits that must be applied in daily life.
- Other possible risks. Blood loss after surgery, wound infections and possible irritation of stomach mucus because of vomiting or because of intake of antiinflammatory drugs.

Testimonials
.... I've tried almost every weight loss method available, I think! Last year I joined a weight club that encouraged us to live on powdered drinks as long as possible. I lost 15 kg quickly and was excited! I met my current husband and once again I began to indulge in good dinner. I gained 15 kg that I had lost before plus I put on additional 10 kg ... When I realized that the surgeon Almantas Maleckas is fluent in Swedish and has done over 1,000 gastric surgeries and is a professor of stomach / intestinal surgery and that the cost of the whole thing was about half of what it costs in Sweden, it was just a question of time for me before I landed on the operating table in Kaunas, Lithuania ... read more
